Let's talk about our evolving industry and forging “a name for ourselves”. When I talk about “us” I am including the broader scope of the entire advertising specialty industry. Ever since I started in this business almost twenty years ago I have felt a stigma when I stated what I did for a living. I have had many careers and even while still selling promotional products, I was the brand manager for Jewel. I love marketing and branding and it has been a secret passion of mine to establish our industry in the mind of consumers and buyers both, that we are in the business of marketing and advertising and not the ugly stepchild. So, I feel a bit redeemed as I blog today. Last year I wondered why Promopeddler.com wasn’t listed among the Top 50 Marketing firms when the Portland Business Journal compiled their ranking list every year. I questioned our absence last year after the list was revealed and made certain PBJ understood what we did as a company. So, early this Spring I received an e-mail asking for our information to be considered for the list. Out of the Top 50, we placed #8. I think this is a big day for ‘the Advertising Specialty Industry” and just a sign of things to come. Time to raise our glasses and toast to being allowed into the esteemed “marketing” club!
